Rowing 4 Children in Need.

After having looked at the weather, wind and wave forecast the date of the row for the Children in Need Foundation has been brought forward.  We hope to leave Turkey late afternoon on Monday the 30^th of May getting in to Girne old harbour on Tuesday the 31^st at between 10 to 11 am.

Tomorrow will be a long day fly to Adana in Turkey, car to Mersin to pick up the boat and then in a pick up truck with the boat to Tasicu to go to the crossing point in the support boat.  Then a long long long row.

A few days back I posted that Francis Wedin will be the second team member for the row, after Dan had to withdraw due to injury. To find out a little more about Francis check out his profile on “the team” page.

Frances has worked very hard to bring in a new main event sponsor and we are delighted to have Ariana Resources on board.

My bro Dan who was doing the row with me has totally messed his knee up.  I would like to tell you he was doing something heroic but he fell in some deep snow in Turkey.  He will be out of action for the next six months at least so he cannot do the row.  He was very definite that the row should go ahead as we have had to move the date a couple of times already.

We were talking about doing the row with two boats this year but what will happen is that Frances Wedin (who was lined up for the other boat) will be doing the row with me instead.  Dan is hoping to get over and be part of the support team and to help with logistics.

It was a privilege and pleasure to be at the Big Girls don’t Cry event organised by the Supper Club and hosted by CiNF.  The East Coast Boys performed a super tribute show to the legendary Franki Valli and the Four Seasons.  The Rock hotel did us proud and good food and music was enjoyed by all.

The boat had its first official engagement and was on display so the the row could be introduced to the guests.  Sponsorship forms were circulated and over 4,000tl was collected and pledged.  We could not wish for a better start to the fund rising.  So thank you all so much.

After having successfully been part of a team that raised over £10,000 for a couple of Cancer Charities but having not completed the challenge of the 90km row from Turkey to Cyprus the Swanson brothers (and maybe some others) are back to settle an old score and raise lots of money for the Children in Need Foundation.  The row is back on some time in the week staring the 30th May 2011 (the actual day is weather forecast depending).

The purpose of this site is to let you know more and to encourage you to support a very different event and extremely important Charity in North Cyprus…
